Group Analysis is a means of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy/dynamic of the individual in the group and through the group, deploying the multiple interactions and relationships that the group setting generates.
Emerging in Europe and the United States, this is a research and therapeutic method that shares its theoretical foundations with Psychoanalysis. However, this makes recourse to different procedures that interrelated with the new setting – the group setting – based upon the theory and techniques of group analysis.
Over the years, this technique has spread internationally to South America, Australia, South Africa, China and organised into major Federations (EFPP, EGATIN, GASi).
Group Analysis, as defined in Portugal, conjugates the global theoretical body of the psychoanalysis theory with phenomenology of group dynamics, especially as conceived by S. H. Foulkes and his followers from the 1940s onwards.
This is a psychotherapy that treats the individual in the plural relational context of a group. The sessions are supervised by a psychotherapist with specific training in group analysis that involved a complex theoretical-practice training process.
The association that currently regulates training in Europe is EGATINE (European Group Analytic Training Institutions Network) made up of associations from 21 European countries and Israel.
Experience the extremely difficult attitude of being in and respecting the group without losing your own individuality.
